5 Tips and tricks for a successful shopping trip

May 1, 2017 ShaKayla Eaddy

I hear quite often that people hate shopping, and with me loving to shop I just don't see how that's possible. I love shopping in store rather than online because it's a better experience, and I feel that you enjoy your purchases more. But for many people who hate shopping in store and need some tips, I'm here to give you five easy tips. Shopping is all about strategy, so I'm here to teach you!

Tip #1: What do you want to buy

When going shopping you need to have an idea of at least what you want to buy and the trip will be much easier. It's okay if you pick up a few extra things you didn't plan to buy, but at least you went into the store with an idea of what you were looking for. If you are a shopper who likes to get in and get out maybe look on the store's website first and then go into the store to specifically look for those things, or even better ask a sales associate to point you in the direction of those items.

Tip #2: Budget

The best way to have a successful shopping trip and not be surprised or distraught after is to plan how much you want to spend before you go into the store. By setting a budget it helps to decide which things you want to purchase more than others. As long as you keep a particular budget in your head and you only pick up things within that budget, you will get to the register and either be under your budget or right at it. The key is to be mindful when you shop and not just impulse shop.

Tip #3: Make sure you really like what you are buying

When shopping it's easy to see something and say "ooooo I want that" but not actually really want it. When shopping make sure you LOVE the items you are buying, because you are spending your money and you want to make sure it's worth it. You never want to buy something that you can only wear once or don't know where you'll wear it to but you think it's cute, if it can't be a staple in your closet, PUT IT BACK! Also if you are looking at something that's over $100 and you're not sure about it, put it back, go home and sleep on it and if you're still thinking about it the next day go back and buy it or purchase it online.

Tip #4: Be comfortable

If you are going out shopping make sure you are comfortable so that you can actually enjoy your shopping trip and find what you want. Don't take anyone with you that isn't going to better your experience because that can change your whole mood (and you want to be in a good mood while shopping right?!). You want to wear comfortable clothes and shoes just in case you want to try things on or need to go in multiple stores.

Another part of being comfortable is TAKING YOUR TIME, there's so many times that I hear people say they don't like shopping in Forever 21 or can never find anything, but that's because they don't actually take the time to look through the racks. If you're just glancing through the racks and not actually taking the time to look then of course you won't find anything. That's why I love stores like Forever 21 because I take the time to look which helps me to always find things that others missed.

Tip #5: Returns and miscellaneous tips

If you are like me and don't like to try things on at stores, purchase them and keep your receipts, and when you get home try them on and if they don't fit take them back. You can't get mad at the cashier if you try to bring them back without the receipt and you knew that was the policy.

One of my biggest tips to all shoppers is to check out the sale section first! I love the sale section because there are always hidden jewels there that people didn't think to look for and they're at a discounted price. In my opinion no matter how much money you have, you can never  be too rich to enjoy a good sale and if you think you are then you're missing out big time!

Well I hope this post is able to help you in you're next shopping trip and hopefully changed you're mind about shopping in-store because I personally love it!
