No George Floyd, Breonna Taylor or Sean Reed weren’t the first and won’t be the last, but George Floyd is the straw that broke the camels back. We’ve had enough, they always find a new way to treat us less than human from slavery to segregation, Jim Crow, police brutality, economic discrimination and much more. It may seem like we’ve been fighting the same fight forever but don’t let anybody trick you into beliving that we’ve been fighting the same fight with no change or progression. Protests, petitions and lots of other things have worked in getting officers arrested who originally weren’t, petitions have helped to get the wrongly accused out of prison, protests have helped to fight against injustices towards Black people in prison, Protests, marching, leadership and organizing continues to help get the job done, people have to stop thinking that because something doesn’t happen overnight that the work isn’t working, the real work takes years to reap sustainable benefit. The things we’re fighting right now may not happen in our lifetime but that doesn’t mean they won’t happen. We are our ancestors wildest dreams, we have the opportunities that they fought for but now its time to fight OUR fight that our children and their children will reap the benefits of.

There is no excuse to not be doing SOMETHING right now whether you are a black person, an ally, a company that makes lots of money, companies that profit consistently from the Black dollar, influencers who market towards the Black community, or anyone that benefits from our culture and our likeness (for free and without our permission). There are several different ways you can support here are a few:

  1. Protest. If you have the confidence and the means to use your body and your time to get out in the streets and protest then you should.

  2. Donate. If you can’t donate your time then donate your money to help the families affected in the injustices that we’ve witnessed, donate to bail protestors out of jail, donate to help rebuild Black businesses destroyed, donate to organizations that help Black people in any way,

  3. Volunteer. If you don’t want to get out and protest then go and pass out waters at the protests, volunteer to help clean up Black neighborhoods, volunteer to help businesses get cleaned up, volunteer to protect Black owned businesses from looters, or volunteer to make signs for protestors.

  4. Educate yourself: If you are a Black person educate yourself on the rights in your city, your rights as a citizen of the United States, educate yourself on your history, Educate yourself on local officials to prepare for election time, educate yourself on why certain things are being done, educate yourself on what you can do within your own community, and educate yourself on what past leaders have done to organize and make impactful change. It is extremely important to know and spread accurate information.

  5. Create. If you are a creator of any kind whether its art, music, fashion, movies etc. use your art to spread knowledge and show support and alliance with the Black community. Show that Black people will always continue to fight and have strength using whatever it is you are good at doing.

This is your business, this has everything to do with you, you need to get involved, stop turning a blind eye, stop settling for “if nothing has changed this long, nothing will” Do your part or get left behind, because the revolution will be televised.
