April Thoughts

April 29, 2021 ShaKayla Eaddy
0C24DA25-F268-450B-9424-2D645ED1A563.JPG
  1. As we get older we get better, age is what you make it not the number of years you are

  2. Take time to reflect on where you arer because 9 times out of 10 its further than you used to be

  3. Don’t be afraid to evolve into different versions of yourself

  4. Take time to do nothing

  5. Just because you may not be busy right not doesn’t mean you’re available or have free time

  6. Take a deep breath

  7. You won’t get everything done on the list everyday, its fine

  8. Don’t box yourself in

  9. You’re the first you, do wtf you want

  10. You literally have the freedom to do whatever you want if you decide you’re the one in control. You just can’t be scared to take risks

Many thoughts go through my head on a daily basis but these are 10 that I wanted to share. Everyday we grow and realize something different about ourselves or life, you’re in charge of your life and you have the power and ability to change whatever you don’t like at anytime you just have to get started. Limitations are sometimes things you put on yourself, don’t let something that you can end at anytime have control over you.

It's a Hot Girl Summer and I can't wait

April 22, 2021 ShaKayla Eaddy
IMG_6264.jpg

Being at home is cute and all and I really enjoy being at home but ya girl is ready for it to be summer and to be out in these streets. All summer all I’m doing is making money, traveling, looking fly and living my life, that’s always the vibe but this summer its going down like never before and I can’t wait, I just feel like there’s so much to celebrate and why the hell not.

I’m gone be where all the good food and drinks are, where the money resides and where real life sometimes feels like an amazing dream and I can wait to be doing this all while the sun beams on my skin. Aside from everything I want to be doing I hope that lots of great music is released for this summer to play as the soundtrack to all the hoodrat s*t I’ll be doing, sometimes I wish I could watch a movie play back of my life because I know it’ll be lit and it only gets better with time.

I saw a post on Instagram that said “it costs more to plan for the trip than the actual trip” and another that said “I have more trips planned than money but God got me” and both of those posts resonate me because ain’t nothing or nobody stopping these summer plans, even as an adult I love the summer because it just feels like the weekend everyday. Adulthood is not a thing to waste and is not something that the fun should be drained out of year by year as you get older but somehow you have to find a balance of having fun enjoying your life and being responsible, its possible and don’t ever let anyone tell you otherwise.

Don’t look at enjoying your adulthood as a thing of the past but more so something to celebrate because you want a life you can enjoy and look back on the memories and enjoy those too.

I challenge you to have the time of your life this summer (safely of course), get dressed up even if its to go nowhere and do the things that bring you happiness.

“I want a summer that feels like a Rick Ross song”

Let's get it!!! Its 2021 and I'm ready

January 4, 2021 ShaKayla Eaddy
IMG_8852.jpg

2020 is over and we are now officially in 2021 and today marks the first Monday and the first work week of the new year and I’m so excited. I took a few days off from the end of 2020 through today simply to just enjoy the holiday and get ready for the new year and all that I have planned and in store. I felt like instead of me trying to do everything to prepare for the holiday and trying to create and upload additional content I wanted to just pause, be still and prepare to get ready for 2021 so I could off the clip on all of the ideas I want to breath life into this year. The past few days I have been working and planning but now officially marks day one for me of getting things done and its time to hit the ground running and turn everything up a few notches because all of the goals your write down means nothing if you never put the action into getting them done.

2020 taught me to always be prepared for anything and everything because truly ANYTHING can happen and sometimes there’s nothing you can do about it aside from adapt and make it work for you. For me there is an energy surrounding this new year that feels like positivity, sustainability, growth, good times, great experiences, business growth, personal growth and money. Despite it all some great things happen for me in 2020 and there are memories I made that I will never forget but 2021 for me just feels different. I was excited and anticipating but when the clock struck 12 and the ball dropped I felt the switch and I’m so ready. This year my theme is going with the flow, not overthinking myself out of certain ideas, being present, creating the things I want to see even without all of the resources, having a blast per usual and being where the money resides.

I am implementing more structure and schedules into my work days so I can get more done and still be organized and feel motivated with being a full time entrepreneur and having multiple businesses. When you work for yourself yes there are many pros to it but with being your own boss it takes discipline and discipline takes a lot of strength to make it a habit. This year I will be making decisions that will allow me to have more free time to do other things and handle bigger projects but will also allow for the day-to-day tasks in my businesses and life to get done 10 times better. This year is about health, wealth, love and good memories as it always is.

Don’t give up on yourself or dreams but figure out how to make it work. Nothing is perfect so don’t expect perfection from yourself or other things/people but just be ready to do the work that will yield you the results you desire. I’m wishing anybody who s reading this a happy new year and I hope everything you want this year comes to you or better.

How to Make a Career Doing What you Love

Top: Shein// Pants: Old Navy (I think, bought years ago// Shoes: Akira// Bag: Shein

As you get into adulthood or while you are an adult you are figuring out what you want to do and what you don’t want to do and where you want to take your career or what you want to do in this life to provide for yourself and your family. Many times we may choose a job not because we like it but because it pays the bills and then you blink and its 10 years later and something that was supposed to be temporary turned into something much longer. Also many times family, friends, or society tries to force you into picking something to do because it may bring “security” but you may not be happy with doing that but out of fear of scarcity you do it anyway. Many dreams go unaccomplished because of fear, which is not your fault because many times it is projected onto us by others fears for themselves, but I am here to tell you it is not too late to chase your dreams or try new and different things or multiple things at once.

Yes you want to make money, but you don’t want to spend the bulk of your days (work days are usually 8 hours in more structured or corporate environments) and you definitely don’t want to spend 8 hours of your life daily doing something that makes you unhappy because it will start to show in all other parts of your life and you definitely don't want to spend that eight hours somewhere that doesn’t see your potential and doesn’t pay you your worth which may cause you to be barely scraping by.

Whether its a dream job at a different company and in a different position or its starting from scratch creating your on business or businesses or streams of income it is definitely possible to attain, but you have to decide how important is your happiness to you.

5 Tips to make a Career out of What you love:

  1. Stop caring about what others think or have to say, you are in charge of your life.

Many times people don’t follow through with their ideas or plans because they have allowed other people’s views and opinions to discourage them and make them feel like what they want to attain isn’t possible, but just because its not possible for them doesn’t mean its not possible for you. Do you want to spend your life wondering “what if” or do you want to try it and see if it works out and if it doesn't then back to the drawing board and on to the next. Learn to be satisfied with your own opinions of your life and choices therefore you have no reason to look anywhere for answers because your decision may already be made.

  2. Take the time to explore yourself, your interests, your non-negotiables, what makes you happy, what do you really want

Many times people may not know exactly what it is they want to do but they know that they don’t like what they currently are doing. Take the time to explore different interests and things outside of your comfort zone, take on things as hobbies and then decide if you want to take them any further and start learning how you can do that. Figure out what you want your daily life to look like, how much money would you need to live the lifestyle you desire, what things make you happy, what types of structure do you work best in (flexibility or something more set in stone daily). You can’t find out what you want to do if you don’t truly know who you are or where you want to end up.

  3. Let go of limiting expectations and mindsets

Stop thinking that just because something didn’t work instantly that it means it won’t happen. Instant gratification isn’t realistic so get out of that, if you want results put in the time, the work and the effort and you will eventually see the benefit which might come slow or they might come fast but you have to remember that slow and steady wins the race and this is a marathon stop being in such a rush to “finish”. Grow up and stop thinking that just because something didn’t go the way that you expected that its all over, if plan A didn’t work figure out a Plan B to make Plan A work or if you heard one no either keep moving to the next until you hear a yes or find a way to make that no a yes. If you want everything to go your way when you want it and your mindset stops there and goes no further then you are meant to stay in the unhappy position you’re in because you don’t really want it forreal. You say you want all this money and this great lifestyle but your’e not willing to put in the work and at the first sign of inconvenience or stress you’re ready to throw in the towel, make it make sense.

  4. Stop tying yourself down to things

It is okay to change your mind, it is okay to change your mindset and it is okay to change your life at any given time that you feel the strength to do so. You are not tied to doing something just because you started it, no you shouldn’t give up on things easily or quit, but if you’ve truly tried your best and are not happy then let it go and move on. Not everything has to last forever and nothing has to be set in stone if you don’t want it to. Find your power and take it back and stop letting everything else drag you through life.

  5. Realize your path is yours for a reason and will be different from others, give yourself time and grace

You may accomplish things at a different pace than the people around you, it may take you a little longer or it may take you less time but you will never know unless you try your own shit in your own way. Do things the way you want to not the way others are doing it or think you should do it. Be yourself and stop trying to be a duplicate version or everyone else. There is one of you and that is your power. Nothing is an overnight success so give yourself time and grace to grow into who you truly are and continuously elevate that. Comparison is the theif of joy, you aren’t them and they aren’t you.

No one said it would be easy but pick a hard.

5 Tips on How to Make Your Home Quarantine Comfortable

October 19, 2020 ShaKayla Eaddy
IMG_1084.jpg

So we’re in the house and most of us have been for the last seven months, whether you’ve been working from home and your job is keeping it that way, you work for yourself or went back to work but you may be returning back home soon due to the seasons changing and the second wave of COVID approaching due to flu and cold season, and as we all know if you have to be home all day everyday you want to make sure your home is a space you actually want to be in.

When working at home you want to make sure that your home is a place that motivates you to work or that you feel comfortable enough to be in, and no everyone may not have their own place and that’s okay but whether the whole place is yours or you just have a room or other spaces you can use I wanted to give you some tips on how to make your spaces quarantine comfortable.

5 Tips on How to elevate your Space for Quarantine:

  1. Make sure it smells good

There’s nothing better than a space that smells as good as it looks and makes you want to be there

    -Get candles

There are lots of amazing Black Owned Candle businesses, check out my Black owned business directory, Google and Instagram. One of my favorite Black owned candle companies is Lit BKLYN, as well as overall great candles at different stores and online. Browse the internet for good recommendations.

    -Get a humidifier

Sold at Amazon, Target, Homegoods, TJ Maxx etc. at all different prices and you can get sets of essential oils

Humidifiers are a great way to not only keep your space smelling good but to purify your air and help keep your mind and body calm and destress you without you even having to do anything. They are good to have and good for your health

    2. Keep your space clean and organized

Whether you have a room, apartment or house make sure you keep it CLEAN, there’s nothing worse than being in a dirty or cluttered space (especially for me being the germaphobe I am) take the time out of your day to clean up your space and pick up after yourself if you make a mess so the job doesn’t pile up

Stay organized, hit up Homegoods or Amazon for some storage organizers or whatever you need to buy to make sure everything has a place. A cleaner space helps to declutter your thoughts

    3. Make it pretty

Make sure your space looks like something you want to see, not saying you have to go full blown HGTV, but by surrounding yourself with things you like to look at it makes your work space more comfortable and it may inspire you to even work harder.

Check out Pinterest for ideas on decorating everything from your desk to your whole room or space, you can get low cost decor from Amazon, Homegoods, TJMaxx etc. take a little more time to care about other things that may brighten your mood and you’ll see and feel the difference

4. Find a designated area where you will work

Yes you may be at home but that doesn’t mean work from your bed everyday, not having a designated area to work can make you more lazy and off task. Set up a work area that includes a desk or something to work on and all of the things you will need to get things done

Working from the bed may be something you end up doing once a week just because you need a break and you’re human but don’t make it an everyday thing.

5. Set the tone

Working from home can start to make your home feel less enjoyable if you let it.

Set a time of when you will work and make a space for where you work so you know that your work doesn’t leave that area and you are only at that area from this time to that time, also take breaks for lunch or just to chill even if you’re not leaving out the house

Play some music, a podcast or a show in the background so you have something to get you going and keep you entertained while you work.

Open the blinds for some sunlight and get yourself ready to be productive whether that’s eating breakfast before you start working, drinking some tea, working out before work or whatever else you see fit.

Not to say that everyday will be perfect but Working from home doesn’t have to be a drag if you can spruce up the place where you are working and living and now this is where you are most of the day, if you set the tone for how you want your work day to go and if you set the vibe to get yourself in the mood to get things done!

Know is a better time than any to make renovations and spruce up where you now lay your head and work.

McBride Sisters Black Girl Magic Riesling Wine Review

October 14, 2020 ShaKayla Eaddy
IMG_4207.jpg

I have been wanting to try the McBride sisters wine since I first heard about them a few years ago and the fact that they were two Black sisters with their own wine company got me and I first saw them on the Black cooking show Brown + Butter on Aspire so I was sold . I just thought it was amazing to see that two Black women came out with their own wine especially because I love wine and and thought it was so cool that they had one called Black Girl Magic, but I just never got around to purchasing a bottle and it could only be bought online. But last week when I was out grocery shopping and went to Trader Joe’s they had a whole section that said “Supporting Diversity” with all Black owned wines which I had never seen them do before so it must be something new, but I was so happy because despite popular belief Black people shop at Trader Joe’s especially Black women and we love to see products made by us for us on the shelves of the stores that we frequent, and its one thing to say you “stand with us” during peaks of racial injustice but its another to actually put action behind your words and show that you truly do support diversity and Black people especially if we spend money at your stores.

In this section of the store it was set up very nicely and it included the McBride Sisters Black Girl Magic Riesling and their Red blend as well as Mary J. Blige the icon’s wine Sun Goddess Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon Blanc which I didn’t even know MJB had a wine until that day, but I will definitely be back at Trader Joe’s to get it and I’m so glad to know that I can pick it up at a store near me.

So now that I told you where I was able to grab it and how happy I was to see Trader Joe’s showing real alliance let’s get into the taste of the wine… So I’m usually a Pinot Grigio girl when it comes to white wine so initially I wasn’t a fan of the Riesling it just tasted too “winey” and it was dry like Riesling is but after the first couple sips I started to enjoy it and kept pouring a little bit more and it didn’t help that the day I got it and opened it I was sitting watching the VP Debate and watching Kamala Harris eat Mike Pense up so watching a very educated Black woman who is running as Vice President in the 2020 Presidential Election while drinking Black woman owned wine was a vibe, definitely Black Girl Magic

Even though I am not a Riesling Girl I still give this wine a 9/10 because it was good after the first few sips, it did have me pouring another glass, it was quality wine and it was Black Owned so I would definitely suggest you try it, I’m not sure if other Trader Joe’s locations have it or other stores but if you would like some you can click here to get it on their website.

The have other wines aside from their Black Girl Magic Collection and they have bottled and canned wines, so if you love to sit at home and enjoy a good glass of wine click the link above to shop the variety of options they have and get you some Black Owned wine.

Fall Wardrobe Essentials

October 12, 2020 ShaKayla Eaddy
IMG_4431.jpg

So with us offficially having been in the Fall season for a few weeks now I know everyone is in the process of going Fall and Winter shopping because I know over the span of the past few weeks I’ve been buying pieces and I’ll probably still be doing that over the next few weeks/months and while doing so I definitely feel like I need a sponsor because I’m tired of spending my own money lol.

But for me Fall is my favorite season and I love Fall and Winter for fashion, I just feel like all of Fashion is better during these seasons, I feel like you can do more and be a little more creative with your pieces and everything just hits so well if you know how to dress yourself.

My Fall wardrobe is going to consist of texture, quality, and statement pieces, I am at a point with my wardrobe where I am fully building it out, going in a different direction with certain things and evolving my look into more of what I want and want to look like at my age right now and who I am. I am looking for piecesssss and that’s it, like I want to have something for everything, I want to have everything I need down to different color great quality plain jogging suit sets and separates.

I am building out a full wardrobe to where I am satisfied with everything in my closet, I have something to wear for everything whether its chill or more dressed up and I have great pieces that can be paired with anything as well as having things that are in different colors that I usually wouldn’t buy just for the times that I want to pop out with something colorful and I know its there if I ever want to wear it.

Of course you will buy and grab what fits your style or what you like the best but this list is full of items that are the basic pieces you need to have in your wardrobe, things that are versatile and can be worn with different looks, outerwear pieces that complete a look because in the colder seasons your coat/jacket is seen before your look and it must be giving the same amount of greatness as your look is.

When shopping for a new season there are some things you need to have an also of course things you want, if you want to go in a different direction with your look or just spice it up a bit now is the time because its a whole new season and you’re shopping anyway.

I hope that this list gives you an idea of how to start your Fall shopping jouney!

5 Tip on How to Plan Your Month

September 30, 2020 ShaKayla Eaddy
IMG_3539.jpg

When a new month or a new quarter rolls around the planning begins if you are a planner like I am, it takes a little more time and effort than planning your day or week. When its a new month or quarter and you have a business or businesses or you just have a lot on your plate it is important to set goals and have an organized way to go about accomplishing them.

5 Tips on How to Plan Your Month:

  1. Try to do it before the month starts if you can

This will allow you to get ahead of yourself and to plan out what you want to accomplish before the month can meet you with things you didn’t expect. Don’t be hard on yourself if you don’t get around to this before the month starts but if you can then do so. Take a little bit of time after your other obligations are maybe at the end of the night or do it while you’re working and plan out what you want to get done personally and with business, what growth do you want to see, what things worked in the current month that may not work in the next and what do you need to do more or less of. Write it out and make it plan, also don’t be so stuck in your plan that things don’t have room to change especially if the change is for the better.

  2. Set realistic goals

Be honest with yourself on what you have the time and energy to complete, you don’t want to set unrealistic goals that you don’t have the current capacity to complete and then end up disappointed at the end of the month because you got nothing done, I’m not saying be easy on yourself or don’t try to challenge yourself but be aware of who you are, how you work and what is already on your plate. If what you need is more resources or information to accomplish larger goals focus on getting that.

  3. Break down your goals

Break down each of your goals on how you can go about accomplishing them. What do you need to do daily to meet your goals, how much time do you need to dedicate to each thing, what things does each goal require you to do. Take the things on your monthly to do list and break them down on your daily and weekly to-do lists if to-do lists are your thing. Don’t just write things down but put action into accomplishing them and making them real.

  4. Allow yourself grace

Sometimes things happen that we didn’t expect and can’t prevent so if those things happen and they alter your plans don’t beat yourself up about it because it was out of your control, but figure out how to adjust and change what is necessary. If you don’t get a few goals done but don’t feel like you have a valid reason it is okay, you are not on a deadline and if you know that you gave your best then that’s all you can do and just try harder the next month to get more accomplished. you don’t want to beat yourself into burnout or depression and not want to do anything at all. You are only one person and you are not a superhero, remember that you are now where you used to pray to be.

  5. Put relaxation on that list as something to do

With all the goal you may have that you want to accomplish you still have to make sure that you are giving yourself time to enjoy your life outside of work, to recoup in order to be able to continue working, to enrich yourself so you have the energy to keep elevating. Don’t think that the grind and hustle are the only things that are important, your well being is more important than that because if you aren’t well then you can’t even enjoy the fruits of your labor and the things that you’ve worked to accomplish. Take days off. implement them into your schedule, allow yourself to unwind at night and get adequate amounts of sleep (definitely talking to myself too)

I hope that everyone accomplish all of the goals that they set for themselves and go out with a bang this year especially since there has been so much going on. Remember to enjoy your moments while they are happening, you deserve relaxation too and slow progress and small ins are still worth celebration.

All Jewelry is from Shein// Top: Pretty Little Thing//

You NEED Gold jewelry, here’s why….

  1. Gold jewelry looks AMAZING on Black people

  3. Gold jewelry goes with everything

I love gold jewelry, I love the way it bounces off of my skin, I love the way it goes with every look, I love the way it can be the final piece that a look needs, I love that it always looks luxurious and upscale, I love what it represents and I personally feel like its a neutral color and definitely can fall under basics

From Gold jewelry to gold packaging, gold home decor etc. gold just always looks amazing but it has to be just the perfect shade and quality for it to not go from luxe to cheap looking real QUICKLY. Of course you have to have the right eye and vision to find the perfect “gold” depending on what you’re buying but gold anything always catches my attention!

Here’s some great places to get affordable luxe gold jewelry:

As y’all know I love fashion and I love clothes, but I also love a comfortable yet fashionable look. There’s nothing like looking cute but also feeling relaxed and not restricted from tight or fitted clothes. As I always like to say it is important to buy PIECES for your wardrobe and what I mean by that is don’t buy outfits and things that can only go together but buy pieces that can be styled with different things and in different ways, pieces that will last you more than one wear and pieces you can dress up or down.

If you’re like me you love having great pieces in your wardrobe but having great basic necessities is very important as well. If your style/look permits make sure you have different basic tees, tanks, bodysuits, leggings etc in your wardrobe or even more dressy and quality pieces in basic/ neutral colors. These basic pieces will be able to take you everywhere from the grocery store to date night or going out to the club, its all about how you style them. Depending on where you shop your basic pieces will change in quality, structure, durability and versatility. Having and building a complete wardrobe means having something to wear no matter the occasion.

5 Black Owned Stores for Basic pieces:

-The K Label

-Matte Brand

-Nubian Skin

-Tier NYC

-Milano di Rouge

Fenty Skin Review!!!

August 26, 2020 ShaKayla Eaddy
IMG_0045.jpg
IMG_0027.jpg
IMG_0042.jpg

So I know I should’ve been given y’all this review but I wanted to use the products for awhile before I gave a review just so I could give you an honest opinion about the products and how I liked them. I signed up for the early access so I was able to shop on July 29th instead of on the 31st during the public release and after some technical difficulties with the website due to so much traffic I got my products! I bought the cleanser and the fat water toner which came out to $56 (very affordable) and they also had a moisturizer with SPF in it that I didn’t get and I have regretted it since I placed my order lol.

You could’ve purchased each product separate or gotten all three for $75 instead of $88 if you bought them all separate. Rihanna always brings the girls luxury products to use at an affordable price and we love her for that. I believe on the public release the items did sell out but they have had a few restocks since. I received my order in a good amount of time without issues and of course the packaging was great.

But aside from pricing and packaging let’s get into the real tea about if the products are actually good. I first want to say that the cleanser and toner (and I’m pretty sure the moisturizer too) are perfect for someone that wants a good cleanser and toner that gets to the point, I can’t tell you if this product will get rid of all of your acne quickly or anything because I don’t get much acne or have sensitive skin but I will say if you’re someone looking for something to use on a day to day basis just to make sure your face is clean Fenty Skin will do that for you.

So on my initial use of the products my face was very soft and clean after, the products do have a slight fragrance that kind of caught me off guard because usually the skin products that are good for your skin don’t have much fragrance or if they do its slight but after using I could tell this was a good product and the fragrance wasn’t bad so that’s great. The product is very lightweight but a little definitely goes a long way so you don’t need a lot. I have used these two products for about a week and a half and I will definitely keep using and add it to my collection.

If you’re like me and don’t want to have to use a million products every time you wash your face then Fenty Skin may be something you want to look into, also everyone who has reviewed it hasn’t had anything bad to say and it has sold out a few times so that should tell you something.

To purchase your Fenty Skin products and add them to your skincare routine click here.

Take a Step Back from the Work and BREATHE

Sometimes you can be so deep in that everyday can start to feel like you’re on a hamster wheel just going and going and not stopping to take in what you’re doing, not stopping for fresh air, not stopping to give time to other things, not stopping to pour back into yourself after all of the pouring out you’ve been doing and overall just getting so caught up in the “bigger picture” that you don’t even appreciate the things that are helping to paint that bigger picture on a day to day basis, and also working so much and focusing on grinding and hustling that you don’t even really realize how much you’re accomplishing.

So as a person that goes through this as well I wanted to give you a few tips on how you can simutaneously work and give yourself a damn break

  1. Set boundaries

-By setting business hours even if you work for yourself

Don’t let people text you about business or needing help with something in the middle of the night if you know their job not calling them at 2am to work

  2. Give yourself time off

-Schedule or plan to take days off or give yourself vacation days or decide that you aren’t working on the weekend (I recently did this and it was such a game changer and breath of fresh air)

-Schedule in advice if you can so you can plan for your business to still move during the days you are off

  3. Set aside time to get inspired

-You can’t keep working if you burn out or your mind is so clouded that it can’t even think of new ideas

-As much as you work take that same amount of time to keep those creative muscles moving and creative juices flowing

-Indulge in whatever inspires you or makes you think of new ideas

  4. Set aside time to just enjoy yourself and have hobbies and things that bring you joy aside from work

-Find things you like that you aren’t trying to monetize

-Find things that bring you peace

-Find hobbies that you may not be perfect at but they make you feel good by doing them

  5. Don’t let go of your passion and spontenaity

-Your passion is what keeps you going

-Its okay to just do some things on a whim if they feel right

  6. When you do something good celebrate yourself

-This will help you to stop and smell the roses and see what you’re accomplishing while you do it instead of realizing later down the line

-Buy yourself something nice as a celebration

-Pamper or wine and dine yourself so you can bask in the fruits of your labor

So if you’re like me and work from home or you love just chilling and watching movies here’s a list of things on Netflix that you can watch. I love Black sitcoms, Black movies from the late 90s and early 2000s, and Black people in general so I’m so happy that over the past couple of years Strong Black Lead (if you aren’t following them on Instagram you should be!) has been doing the groundwork that needs to be done to bring Black Classic Movies, sitcoms and shows to Netflix. If you don’t know most recently they got The Game, Moesha, and Sister Sister on Netflix which is major and shows that we all loved. Can’t wait to see what they get on Netflix next, make sure you’re following them on Instagram because they have some amazing content from interviews with actors to BTS.

Here’s some Movies and Series that you can sit and enjoy on Netflix:

  1. Double Platinum

  2. The Brothers

  3. Players Club '

  4. Soul Plane

  5. Bad Boys I & II

  6. National Security

  7. She’s Gotta Have It

  8. #blackAF

  9. Sextuplets

  10. Sleepless

  11. A Fall From Grace

  12. This Christmas

  13. For Colored Girls

  14. Get on the Bus

  15. Self Made

Why I Love Backless Shirts

Top: Pretty Little Thing// Jeans: Re/Done//

Top: Pretty Little Thing// Jeans: Re/Done//

I’ve fallen in love with backless tops or tops that show a little back action especially when you like your back and the curves of it. A backless top adds that extra oomph that you need, its like a subtle sexiness and something that isn’t expected when someone is looking from the front.

A backless top is also perfect for the summer and so versatile, you can find some that are really cute in both short and long sleeve in a variety of price ranges. I personally love a good top and that’s why I always end up with so many tops and no bottoms to wear them with.

This top is very dressy with the exaggerated shoulders and high neck, but it can be dressed down for a happy hour, brunch or date night or dressed up if you are really popping out somewhere. This may not be a top that everyone feels like they can dress down but its definitely possible.

With this look I paired the top with my absolute favorite jeans that are are by Re/done that I got from I believe L Train Vintage in New York, they have more of a baggy but still fitted style, I didn’t go anywhere in this look (because its still a pandemic) but when I do wear it out I would probably style it like this again or with some cute shorts since it is summer time (this shirt is not for a 90 degree day remember that). This piece is from Pretty Little Thing so it was on the more affordable side and they ALWAYS have a sale happening, but being patient and looking through sites like Pretty Little Thing is how you can find the more luxury looking pieces but at a more affordable price so you can make them pieces hit.

I love me a good backless top and can’t wait to get more and style them different ways, make sure you grab you some too I promise you won’t regret it.

I Want to Smell Like Luxury: My Current Fav

August 10, 2020 ShaKayla Eaddy
IMG_8345.jpg
IMG_8344.jpg

So I LOVE perfume and I am definitely a perfume girl. I love very sexy and grown scents, I feel like it says a lot about someone if you can smell their cologne or perfume when they enter and leave a room. Good perfume and cologne draws you to a person and makes you want to know what scent they are wearing. I feel like if you are a well dressed and put together person a good perfume or cologne collection is vital.

Like I said before I personally like a sexy and grown scent, one that just makes you seem or feel like to yourself like you have it all together, you’re making moves in life, you like luxury and it makes you smell like MONEY. I am a firm believer in investing in good perfume (because they definitely can be an investment and are far from $20 like you may spend at Bath & Body Works) I feel like with the cheaper body sprays that I know we all have used from Victoria’s Secret or Bath & Body Works they don’t last throughout the day and sometimes they don’t smell as good or they lose the smell as time goes on, but you can make a conscious decision to elevate yourself especially once you become an adult, get more money and invest in perfume that will last you throughout the day and become your signature possibly.

Yes it’s important to invest in good perfume but you also have to learn what your smell is because everything is not for every body and it may smell good on someone else but it may not smell good on you. Like do you like more crisp scents? do you like cleanly scents? do you like floral scents? Do you like classic scents? Do you like warm scents, do you like light scents etc. figure out what’s best for you and then go from there.

With it being a pandemic you don't really have the luxury of going into a store and smelling different fragrances to pick the one you want, but you can look at reviews and just take a chance on what you think may fit you or align with your style and personality. I kept seeing this Yves Saint Laurent Libre perfume and hearing great reviews, and I’m also a fan of Yves Saint Laurent so I grabbed it from Sephora and when I received it I absolutely loved it (this size is a little over $130, 3.04 oz)

This perfume is so grown and sexy and just smells expensive and if you’re anything like me you’ll love that, its honestly perfect for date night or if you’re going out somewhere but overall I love it. If you want to walk around KNOWING that you smell good, if you like compliments on your smell then grab this or want the perfect touch to a great outfit then you NEED this.

I do feel like there is a different fragrance that goes with each different outfit and the one that is just your go to, but you will start to get into those favs once you begin to build your collection, yes it may be expensive to build a collection but it will allow you not to use your one good perfume so much so they’ll last longer, and you can build at your own pace. But that goes into figuring out when it comes to yourself and your maintenance what do you like, what are you willing to spend and what do you prioritize. But once you start getting into fragrances you’ll realize what I mean about there’s a different perfume for each different look, they make you feel and smell a different way. Girl get you some good perfume and instantly elevate your whole being and confidence.

I want to leave you with a tip….. It is always important to know what you want to portray or how you want to feel when it comes to wardrobe, how you look, how you carry yourself etc. and you can’t be afraid to spend whatever you can afford or allocate on yourself because it is very true that when you look good you feel good and when you look good, feel good and SMELL good that’s when you really know you’re THAT girl that you think you are.

Keeping Going Even when you don't see the Result you Want yet

Blazer: Forever 21// Bra: Savage X Fenty// Jeans: Pretty Little Things// Lip: Stunna by Fenty Beauty

We all are working hard, we’re trying to reach our goals and we’re trying to overall make things happen and not all the time will we see the results we want right at the moment we want them or you’re working really hard and always have been and start to get down on yourself because you feel like you should be further and its not because you’re comparing yourself or your situation/progress to anyone else, but because you know what you are capable of, you know the worth of your work, you know how much time and effort you put in and you know that you haven’t given up then you feel like you should be further than you are at times.

But we just have to keep in our minds to just keep working, to not give up and that your hard work will pay off, they say you need to put in your 10,000 hours if you want your success, well keep focusing on doing that and doing the groundwork so that when it does pay off you can truly enjoy it and be present in those moments. Being an entrepreneur or business owner during this time can be very hard, we’ve been going through a pandemic and pretty much been on lock down since March, there’s a damn near civil war going on, we’re dealing with 10 times the racism as usual it seems like, some people are experiencing a lack of finances because some people have been laid off, some people are getting paid less because they have to work from home, many people aren’t receiving unemployment and never even received a stimulus check so there’s a lot that we have to handle right now aside from just business. When you’re grinding and hustling you have to also take care of yourself and your mental state and right now with everything going on this is a lot for people mentally.

Be patient with yourself and know that sometimes but especially now you are doing enough, you are on the right path and your time is coming but there are circumstances that happen in the world that you have no control over that can slow things down. Be patient and just keep preparing for when your moment comes.

The Remix: Hip Hop x Fashion Documentary!!!!

If you haven’t already head to Netflix to check this out! If you’re anything like me you’ll be happy you watched it and will want to watch it again

The Remix: Hip Hop x Fashion by Lisa Cortes and Farah X

So I checked out this documentary the day it came out, I had no idea it was releasing let alone being created until I saw someone post about it on Instagram the night it had released (which is one reason why I love Instagram and social media), even though I know I would’ve found out about it I’m glad I found out when I did and watched it immediately because my creativity has been wanting to watch something like this so bad but there’s nothing out that I’ve found that I haven’t seen already.

From beginning to end this documentary was amazing and finally fit Black fashion icons into the conversaton that they’ve deserved to be in since we were designing daily wear for the wealthy but they were paying us next to nothing and putting white designers names on our creations. The documentary featured many important people and Black Fashion Icons like Misa Hylton and everything she did for Hip Hop and Fashion, Dapper Dan and the amazing legacy he created that the gatekeepers of the Fashion industry tried to destroy, April Walker and the success of Walker Wear during the 90s, Kerby Jean-Raymond the creator of the amazing Pyer Moss, Bevy Smith and many more. This documentary is amazing to watch especially for young Black people that are trying to enter the fashion industry or just trying to learn more about Black people in the Fashion Industry and the impact that we’ve had.

For so long they’ve tried to X us out of the conversation and steal from us but pretend to pay us no attention like how they black-balled Dapper Dan then Gucci proceeded to steal one of his designs and put it on the runway decades later but were stopped in their tracks by the power of Black Twitter and how they continue to watch us to make their new collections but don’t want us wearing let alone buying their pieces.

The documentary brought the receipts and had conversation that needed to be started, it not only showed the impact of the before-mentioned icons but it showed the solidarity that some of them have with each other, the way that Dapper Dan and Misa Hylton support each other, the way Misa Hylton supports her daughter and can pass along her expertise, the way Black artists stood for Dapper Dan and still bought his pieces even after the fashion industry got his boutique shut down and he had to go underground, the way Black artists supported April Walker and Walker Wear even when they didn’t know that she was behind the brand, it shows the way that Misa Hylton and Diddy came together and Diddy scouted and pulled together the artists musically but Misa helped them to create images for themselves through fashion and their style. It shows the support that we have amongst each other even when media can make it seem like all Black people have a crabs in a barrel mentality.

The documentary is amazing and is definitely something I would watch again and highly recommend. I also loved seeing both April Walker and Misa Hylton wearing “Ghetto Until Proven Fashionable” Hoodies on a few of their scenes which was created by Nareasha Willis, we love seeing people with platforms support smaller businesses because that can give that brand so much exposure.

We love the documentary and can’t wait to see more projects like this featuring Black people and the work we’ve done in this trillion dollar industry and our stories.

Fenty Skin is Coming!! My thoughts....

July 21, 2020 ShaKayla Eaddy

So like last week Rihanna broke the internet as she casually does by coming on the Instagrams and telling us that Fenty Skin will be dropping July 31st and I am SO excited. I personally love Rihanna and I always have, but I especially love that she continues to create business after business in the industries she loves and dominates as well as is proudly a Black woman in them. She is true to creating things that are inclusive of all women and even men. She continues to build an empire in her namesake and we know that she isn’t stopping anytime soon. She first created Fenty Beauty in 2017and definitely shocked the world and had all the girls gagging, then she release Savage X Fenty in 2018 which was lingerie that not only looked good but feels great and so comfortable and has such a great membership system and they are always sold out (people love it lol), then she followed with Fenty in 2019 which is her luxury fashion brand under LVMH that has produced amazing thing, and NOW Fenty Skin in 2020 for all of your skincare needs no matter if you’re a man or woman. Rihanna has literally made it where you can have on a Fenty outfit, shoes and sunglasses, with Savage X Fenty lingerie underneath, your face beat with Fenty Beauty, and then go home and end your night with Fenty Skin skincare and sleep in Savage X Fenty sleepwear. Like WOW sis is doing her thing!!

We already know that Fenty Skin is going to follow in all of the other Fenty brands footsteps and blow its predecessors out of the water with quality products that have integrity and true concern for their consumers instead of just greed, true inclusivity for all skin types, variety of product to shop from, and an easy website to navigate with incentives for members. Like we literally can’t wait to see what products are released but we know we’ll have some good things to choose from and thing are going to sellout QUICK.

I own some Fenty Beauty items and I can attest that they are quality and truly became on my list of favorites, I also own some items from Savage X and I have the membership and I love it and soon want to convert fully to Savage X and other Black owned intimates/lingerie brands , and I can’t wait to grab some Fenty Skin and hopefully soon something from Fenty.

Top & Shorts: Thrifted// Boots: Pretty Little Things

I know me personally I’m a fan of wearing clothes from other seasons in the summer and I love a cute boots summer look. You can honestly ass some cute ass boots in the white color to some shorts or a dress to make it perfect for summer. Looks like these are perfect for a night out and it may be a little cooler, or brunch where you don’t want to be too dressed up but you still want to be cute.

When I came across these boots on pretty Little Things I knew I had to grab them, I love a good quality reptile textured shoe or piece like snakeskin or croc and these were the perfect color! This camel/orange like color is perfect for the summer but also something that you can transfer to the Fall. I can see myself now coming up with so many different looks to wear with these boots for the days that it’s not absolutely too hot to have on boots even with shorts.

Don’t run from trying new things like boots in the summer, it can come

Out very cute and you’ll impress yourself.

I'm back.... I'm so sorry for the wait

Facetune_02-05-2020-15-59-18.JPG

I’m back

So I’m Back. After being on a hiatus from blogging, with my last post being at the end of January I’m finally back. I didn’t take a break for any particular reason not did I plan It, it just kind of happened and I didn’t mind so I stayed gone. I started this blog in 2016 and as of recently (about the last year and a half) blogging kind of became secondary to everything else I was doing and I no longer had the interest. Also the fact that things have been from blogging and more to YouTube videos and Instagram as far as people’s interest thats what I wanted to put my focus on because to be honest how many people still read blog posts, aside from the people that are actually interested in blogging and who wants to just be talking to no one. Also the fact that I wasn’t being able to get my content the way I wanted, take pictures as much as I wanted and just overall put as much time into my blogging as I wanted (because I mean there’s only so many hours in a day and I’m only one person) But after months of being away I knew that I didn’t just want to let my blog go, especially because it was my first baby before everything else that I am now doing and at one point I truly enjoyed creating blog posts.

So all this brings me to now, no I didn’t want to give up on my blog and to be honest no I don’t have the interests to be creating as many posts as I used to but I am back and I will be bringing content as much as I can. I want to continue to grow this audience because it is mine and it is on my platform and I can say whatever I feel because I have the right to. I will be bringing new and fresh things so that things do get boring or sound repetitive with the same content. But I’m back.

Also make sure to subscribe to my YouTube channel ShaKayla Diamond and follow me on Instagram @keepinguowithkay_ to see what I’m doing and up to more frequently. Thank you for your patience and I hope you enjoy us being back on this ride. Make sure you subscribe to my site so you receive exclusive news and updates.
