How to Make a Career Doing What you Love

As you get into adulthood or while you are an adult you are figuring out what you want to do and what you don’t want to do and where you want to take your career or what you want to do in this life to provide for yourself and your family. Many times we may choose a job not because we like it but because it pays the bills and then you blink and its 10 years later and something that was supposed to be temporary turned into something much longer. Also many times family, friends, or society tries to force you into picking something to do because it may bring “security” but you may not be happy with doing that but out of fear of scarcity you do it anyway. Many dreams go unaccomplished because of fear, which is not your fault because many times it is projected onto us by others fears for themselves, but I am here to tell you it is not too late to chase your dreams or try new and different things or multiple things at once.

Yes you want to make money, but you don’t want to spend the bulk of your days (work days are usually 8 hours in more structured or corporate environments) and you definitely don’t want to spend 8 hours of your life daily doing something that makes you unhappy because it will start to show in all other parts of your life and you definitely don't want to spend that eight hours somewhere that doesn’t see your potential and doesn’t pay you your worth which may cause you to be barely scraping by.

Whether its a dream job at a different company and in a different position or its starting from scratch creating your on business or businesses or streams of income it is definitely possible to attain, but you have to decide how important is your happiness to you.

5 Tips to make a Career out of What you love:

1. Stop caring about what others think or have to say, you are in charge of your life.

   Many times people don’t follow through with their ideas or plans because they have allowed other people’s views and opinions to discourage them and make them feel like what they want to attain isn’t possible, but just because its not possible for them doesn’t mean its not possible for you. Do you want to spend your life wondering “what if” or do you want to try it and see if it works out and if it doesn't then back to the drawing board and on to the next. Learn to be satisfied with your own opinions of your life and choices therefore you have no reason to look anywhere for answers because your decision may already be made.

2. Take the time to explore yourself, your interests, your non-negotiables, what makes you happy, what do you really want

   Many times people may not know exactly what it is they want to do but they know that they don’t like what they currently are doing. Take the time to explore different interests and things outside of your comfort zone, take on things as hobbies and then decide if you want to take them any further and start learning how you can do that. Figure out what you want your daily life to look like, how much money would you need to live the lifestyle you desire, what things make you happy, what types of structure do you work best in (flexibility or something more set in stone daily). You can’t find out what you want to do if you don’t truly know who you are or where you want to end up.

3. Let go of limiting expectations and mindsets

   Stop thinking that just because something didn’t work instantly that it means it won’t happen. Instant gratification isn’t realistic so get out of that, if you want results put in the time, the work and the effort and you will eventually see the benefit which might come slow or they might come fast but you have to remember that slow and steady wins the race and this is a marathon stop being in such a rush to “finish”. Grow up and stop thinking that just because something didn’t go the way that you expected that its all over, if plan A didn’t work figure out a Plan B to make Plan A work or if you heard one no either keep moving to the next until you hear a yes or find a way to make that no a yes. If you want everything to go your way when you want it and your mindset stops there and goes no further then you are meant to stay in the unhappy position you’re in because you don’t really want it forreal. You say you want all this money and this great lifestyle but your’e not willing to put in the work and at the first sign of inconvenience or stress you’re ready to throw in the towel, make it make sense.

4. Stop tying yourself down to things

   It is okay to change your mind, it is okay to change your mindset and it is okay to change your life at any given time that you feel the strength to do so. You are not tied to doing something just because you started it, no you shouldn’t give up on things easily or quit, but if you’ve truly tried your best and are not happy then let it go and move on. Not everything has to last forever and nothing has to be set in stone if you don’t want it to. Find your power and take it back and stop letting everything else drag you through life.

5. Realize your path is yours for a reason and will be different from others, give yourself time and grace

   You may accomplish things at a different pace than the people around you, it may take you a little longer or it may take you less time but you will never know unless you try your own shit in your own way. Do things the way you want to not the way others are doing it or think you should do it. Be yourself and stop trying to be a duplicate version or everyone else. There is one of you and that is your power. Nothing is an overnight success so give yourself time and grace to grow into who you truly are and continuously elevate that. Comparison is the theif of joy, you aren’t them and they aren’t you.

No one said it would be easy but pick a hard.

Why I Love Backless Shirts

I’ve fallen in love with backless tops or tops that show a little back action especially when you like your back and the curves of it. A backless top adds that extra oomph that you need, its like a subtle sexiness and something that isn’t expected when someone is looking from the front.

A backless top is also perfect for the summer and so versatile, you can find some that are really cute in both short and long sleeve in a variety of price ranges. I personally love a good top and that’s why I always end up with so many tops and no bottoms to wear them with.

This top is very dressy with the exaggerated shoulders and high neck, but it can be dressed down for a happy hour, brunch or date night or dressed up if you are really popping out somewhere. This may not be a top that everyone feels like they can dress down but its definitely possible.

With this look I paired the top with my absolute favorite jeans that are are by Re/done that I got from I believe L Train Vintage in New York, they have more of a baggy but still fitted style, I didn’t go anywhere in this look (because its still a pandemic) but when I do wear it out I would probably style it like this again or with some cute shorts since it is summer time (this shirt is not for a 90 degree day remember that). This piece is from Pretty Little Thing so it was on the more affordable side and they ALWAYS have a sale happening, but being patient and looking through sites like Pretty Little Thing is how you can find the more luxury looking pieces but at a more affordable price so you can make them pieces hit.

I love me a good backless top and can’t wait to get more and style them different ways, make sure you grab you some too I promise you won’t regret it.

I Want to Smell Like Luxury: My Current Fav

So I LOVE perfume and I am definitely a perfume girl. I love very sexy and grown scents, I feel like it says a lot about someone if you can smell their cologne or perfume when they enter and leave a room. Good perfume and cologne draws you to a person and makes you want to know what scent they are wearing. I feel like if you are a well dressed and put together person a good perfume or cologne collection is vital.

Like I said before I personally like a sexy and grown scent, one that just makes you seem or feel like to yourself like you have it all together, you’re making moves in life, you like luxury and it makes you smell like MONEY. I am a firm believer in investing in good perfume (because they definitely can be an investment and are far from $20 like you may spend at Bath & Body Works) I feel like with the cheaper body sprays that I know we all have used from Victoria’s Secret or Bath & Body Works they don’t last throughout the day and sometimes they don’t smell as good or they lose the smell as time goes on, but you can make a conscious decision to elevate yourself especially once you become an adult, get more money and invest in perfume that will last you throughout the day and become your signature possibly.

Yes it’s important to invest in good perfume but you also have to learn what your smell is because everything is not for every body and it may smell good on someone else but it may not smell good on you. Like do you like more crisp scents? do you like cleanly scents? do you like floral scents? Do you like classic scents? Do you like warm scents, do you like light scents etc. figure out what’s best for you and then go from there.

With it being a pandemic you don't really have the luxury of going into a store and smelling different fragrances to pick the one you want, but you can look at reviews and just take a chance on what you think may fit you or align with your style and personality. I kept seeing this Yves Saint Laurent Libre perfume and hearing great reviews, and I’m also a fan of Yves Saint Laurent so I grabbed it from Sephora and when I received it I absolutely loved it (this size is a little over $130, 3.04 oz)

This perfume is so grown and sexy and just smells expensive and if you’re anything like me you’ll love that, its honestly perfect for date night or if you’re going out somewhere but overall I love it. If you want to walk around KNOWING that you smell good, if you like compliments on your smell then grab this or want the perfect touch to a great outfit then you NEED this.

I do feel like there is a different fragrance that goes with each different outfit and the one that is just your go to, but you will start to get into those favs once you begin to build your collection, yes it may be expensive to build a collection but it will allow you not to use your one good perfume so much so they’ll last longer, and you can build at your own pace. But that goes into figuring out when it comes to yourself and your maintenance what do you like, what are you willing to spend and what do you prioritize. But once you start getting into fragrances you’ll realize what I mean about there’s a different perfume for each different look, they make you feel and smell a different way. Girl get you some good perfume and instantly elevate your whole being and confidence.

I want to leave you with a tip….. It is always important to know what you want to portray or how you want to feel when it comes to wardrobe, how you look, how you carry yourself etc. and you can’t be afraid to spend whatever you can afford or allocate on yourself because it is very true that when you look good you feel good and when you look good, feel good and SMELL good that’s when you really know you’re THAT girl that you think you are.

Keeping Going Even when you don't see the Result you Want yet

We all are working hard, we’re trying to reach our goals and we’re trying to overall make things happen and not all the time will we see the results we want right at the moment we want them or you’re working really hard and always have been and start to get down on yourself because you feel like you should be further and its not because you’re comparing yourself or your situation/progress to anyone else, but because you know what you are capable of, you know the worth of your work, you know how much time and effort you put in and you know that you haven’t given up then you feel like you should be further than you are at times.

But we just have to keep in our minds to just keep working, to not give up and that your hard work will pay off, they say you need to put in your 10,000 hours if you want your success, well keep focusing on doing that and doing the groundwork so that when it does pay off you can truly enjoy it and be present in those moments. Being an entrepreneur or business owner during this time can be very hard, we’ve been going through a pandemic and pretty much been on lock down since March, there’s a damn near civil war going on, we’re dealing with 10 times the racism as usual it seems like, some people are experiencing a lack of finances because some people have been laid off, some people are getting paid less because they have to work from home, many people aren’t receiving unemployment and never even received a stimulus check so there’s a lot that we have to handle right now aside from just business. When you’re grinding and hustling you have to also take care of yourself and your mental state and right now with everything going on this is a lot for people mentally.

Be patient with yourself and know that sometimes but especially now you are doing enough, you are on the right path and your time is coming but there are circumstances that happen in the world that you have no control over that can slow things down. Be patient and just keep preparing for when your moment comes.

Success Takes Dedication and Persistence

A Letter to my Hustlers,

When we’re in the grind and in the hustle it’s not something that’s easy or that’s usually a smooth path. Sometimes things don’t happen as quickly as we hoped they would or thought they could’ve or should’ve but that doesn’t mean that it won’t happen. When you’re working hard and you have dreams so big that you can’t ever get your mind away from them you want things to happen and you want to reap the benefits of your hard work, but sometimes you have to be patient because your timing isn’t always the right or ideal timing. No matter how frustrating it gets you have to stay consist, persistent and focused. Your success is inevitable for you because God wouldn’t put it on your heart and mind so tough if he didn’t think you could make it happen.

It may seem like it’s not worth it and you may sometimes feel like you want to give up but you get where you’re trying to go by not stopping. You think all of the successful people in this world had an easy path to the success they have now? No, but they got there by not giving up on themselves and their dreams. It’s hard to be successful but it’s also hard to not be, so pick your hard. The path is what builds character and what teaches you to keep striving even after the success and different accomplishments.

Make a plan and then make it happen.

How I Saved Money While in College

So y’all should know by now that I graduated college back in May 2019 from Columbia College Chicago with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fashion Business and Marketing. But as a recent graduate and a person who did this whole college journey for four years there is so much advice and information that I feel I can pass on to current college students, people that will be in college soon and people who are almost done.

People try to make it like going to college isn’t hard and it’s just school etc. but I’m here to tell you that college is hard AF, it is like a full time job, homework and assignments take blood, sweat tears and hours to do, there will be overnighters, there will be procrastination (because it just happens sometimes), there will be some grades you don’t get that you may have wanted and you will be exhausted. For some it’s more than just attending school like for me I was a full time student as well as internships and jobs at the same time and sometimes multiples all at the same time. But one thing that you can do to minimize your stress is minimize spending money or spending as much money because that “broke college student” thing can be very real especially when going out to parties, eating out etc.

So I’m here to give you some tips on how to save some money while in college….

1. Cook at home as often as you can: If you have a kitchen available to you in your living space whether that is on or off campus then you need to stop eating out and just go grocery shopping and cook at home because that will save you a lot of money. As a student and also working and being out and about its easy to just grab some fast food, or grab a coffee or grab a snack but those small prices daily and sometimes multiple times a day adds up.

   • You can meal prep and take snacks with you to have throughout the day so that you can minimize stopping at places like Starbucks or a cafe to buy food or snacks.

   • If you are a coffee or tea drinker and like Starbucks or anything else like it start minimizing how many times a week you go and make your coffee or tea at home some days because that money daily adds up quickly

   • Try to cook majority of the days out of the week, and eat breakfast at home before you leave the house. You can treat yourself but don’t make it an everyday thing.

2. You don’t have to go to every party: I know that when you’re in college parties and going out with friends kind of become apart of your norm but you don’t have to do it everyday. Most of the parties end up being the same each time and the same people are there so if you miss one or a couple you will be fine. You and your friends don’t always have to go out to have fun, you can group together the food you have and get wine or drinks and go over one person’s house or to one person’s room and have a great time (me and my friends used to do this all of the time) and honestly after sophomore year partying gets old.

3. Use the hell out of your student discount: There are a lot of different businesses brick and mortar and online that offer student discounts or promotions at certain times throughout the day, but a lot of the time its not advertised so you have to ask. You are a student and you pay a tuition for every year (per semester) so get as many discounts as you can because you deserve them all.

   • Unidays and Student Beans are apps and websites that you can sign up for using your school email that gives you coupon codes for different online shopping stores, for ordering food online etc.

   • StudentUniverse.com: Flight discounts for students

   • Movie theaters and restaurants: Ask if they have a student discount (normally they do)

4. Go to the free stuff!!!: When you’re in school there are some events and parties that will cost but there are also some free events that may have light refreshments and some parties and clubs that may be free before a certain time. You don’t always have to come out of pocket if there are options for you not to.

Ask any place that you go if they have a student discount it doesn’t hurt to ask. I graduated but will be using my student id until I can’t any more, they got a lot of money out of me while I was in school so I’m going to milk it as much as I can to get some too.

A Coat with the Shoes and Bag to Match

So as you all should know by now, Fall and Winter are may favorite seasons (I say it in about every post) and you also probably know that I love a good coat, but there’s nothing like a good shoe, coat and bag combo. The shoes, coat and bag don’t have to be matchy matchy and I actually prefer them not to be but when they just flow and all just kill as a unit its perfect!

Now the shoes, bag and coat that I’m wearing with this look all matched, but I only put them all together because the colors were a perfect match but they were all different in their own way and all stood out but tied each other together. Also this look plays on the concept of taking a basic outfit and heightening it by adding different accessories to it like outerwear, a cute bag, jewelry etc. At the bare minimum this outfit is just a white turtleneck and a pair of jeans which is very casual and I just made it pop a little bit with the things I added to it.

Also if you look at the three pieces I’m sure they look much more expensive than they actually are. All of these pieces were from fast fashion retailers and under $50, but they are of good quality and look great. You can get higher quality pieces without paying a higher price and they will look great and you’ll be able to add them to different looks to add something more like I did with this bag, shoe and coat combo.

Add to Your Wardrobe, Don't Subtract from Your Bank Account

So on my blog all of you that are avid supporters of my blog or any of my other content platforms should know that I am all about affordable fashion, deals, and getting the most for your money. If you know me then you know I shop everywhere, from thrift stores to regular retail stores, if I like it enough to buy it then I get it it doesn’t matter where it’s from.

This entire outfit was probably less than $50, the blazer is a men’s thrifted blazer (I love the details, the structure and the shoulder pads, its my favorite) and it was probably $3-$5, the jumpsuit was a basic piece I got from Fashion Nova that is great to throw on under anything and it was probably $15, the shoes I may have paid $35 or $40 when I got them a couple of years ago and I had a discount code which is how I paid that price. Now babyyyy these beautiful glasses were literally only $5 from the beauty supply store, yes I said $5 and I got them in this like brown tortoise shell and solid black! You literally gotta stop sleeping on the Beauty Supply and $10 stores.

There are so many places that you can shop and get quality looking pieces but not have to spend that money. Stop only shopping at stores because of the name if that same piece is available somewhere else for a cheaper price. Get more for your money whenever you can and ALWAYS look in the sale section. Looking in the sale section doesn’t mean that there is anything wrong with the pieces there, they just are probably out of season or didn’t sell well. If you have that eye of finding the best pieces and knowing what you like in your wardrobe then you can shop anywhere. Every time I go shopping I’m look for PIECES, I’m looking for things that can create many different outfits, that can be worn 1,000 different ways, and that have some form of a statement.

Get less for more and stop being so ready to break the bank when you don’t have to. Find those discount codes, look in that sale section, go to that thrift store, shop at those fast fashion retailers, have patience to look and happy shopping!

Drink Your Water and Mind your Business to Get ready for the Fall.

The year is almost coming to an end, but don’t underestimate the things that you can still get done in the few months that you have left of this year. If you have goals that you want to reach then strive for them, put your focus on and get ready to start putting some action behind your talking. Drinking your water and minding your business shouldn’t just be a phrase that you see on social media but a phrase that you implement into your everyday life.

If you haven’t yet done the things in your personal life that you’ve wanted to do then you have no time or business getting yourself into what others have going on and what they have or don’t have. So much good comes from minding the business that pays you. Sometimes you need to get off of social media and stop taking hours to scroll and put that time into doing something productive (we’re all guilty of this), people have to stop worrying about pleasing strangers on the internet with a false reality and focus on being pleased with themselves In real life.

It can be a new day, a new week, a new month, a new season or even a new year but there is no time limit or time restraint on changing your perspective, setting new goals, getting disciplined, getting focused, starting that project, going after those clients, marketing that product or service. Get to it, turn that misdirected energy towards something that’ll benefit you. You can say all of the positive things or look at the most motivational quotes but if you don’t change your mindset and put time and effort into your goals they won’t happen.

Fall Fashion Necessities

Fall is upon us and it is officially over for the hot days and we are knee deep in the fall weather from the leaves falling, weather in the 40s and 50s, strong winds and gloomy days. So here I am to help you make sure that your wardrobe is prepared for this changing weather, there are some necessities that you need and I’m here to inform you!

Fall Necessities:

1. Oversized Blazer:

   As you’ve probably been seeing oversized blazers have been on trend for awhile now and it is one of my favorite pieces to have in my closet. An oversized blazer is a masculine trend that you can make feminine and put with so many different looks. You can make your oversized blazer sexy by wearing it with no bra or shirt underneath and showing skin with a long neckline or wear it as a dress with bomb shoes and jewelry. Or you can make it casual by pairing it with a t-shirt and jeans or dress it up in a feminine way by pairing a skirt or pants with it. There are so many things that you can do with oversized blazers and third pieces during every season.

2. Neutrals

   In the Fall and Winter it is great to have a great balance of colors and neutrals. I find that in the Fall the best colors for a great wardrobe are jewel tones like emerald green, red, burgundy, gold, silver, orange, mustard yellow, purples, deep pinks and deep blues. While Neutrals include nude, tan, brown, black, white, grey, (red is a neutral but we already mentioned that color). When Fall comes around things seem to become more gloomy but you don’t want your wardrobe to be. No matter what your daily activities are or your profession you want to have a great balance of color in your wardrobe especially for the fall and winter, this doesn’t mean you need to overflow your closets but you can have key pieces in these different colors that you can mix and match.

3. Great Bottoms

   So when the weather starts to change your bottoms choices may start to become limited, you can wear pants, skirts (you can have different lengths and add tights when necessary and if you choose), and culottes so that you can be warm and be cute. Also you want to make sure that your pants are a good fit so that when its raining or snowing it won’t mess up the hem of your pants. Having bottoms in different colors or even the same colors in different styles will allow for you to make many different looks this Fall instead of having to recycle the same looks. Also if you want to wear shorter bottoms like shorts or shorter skirts or even dresses it’s still possible and you can add thigh high boots (because why not) for extra length and fashion).

4. Sets and Separates

   Everyone loves a good set, and when it’s cold outside you can throw on a set and add the necessary accessories like your bag, jewelry, coat and shoes but at least your canvas (which is your outfit) is set and ready to go and also with it being a set it takes less time to put pieces together. Also the great thing about sets is that you can wear each piece separately and make a lot of different outfits with each piece which is a great cost-per-wear and also attributes to the versatile wardrobe that I always talk about. Also getting sets allows for you to get that minimalistic wardrobe and even a uniform for the new season. Who doesn’t like being able to make 10 different looks with two pieces. 5. A durable bag

   In the Fall you need both a durable and great quality small cross body bag and a big tote bag, both should be in one of the neutral colors (tan, brown, black, white, grey, and red) or a few in each color so that they can go with many different looks. As far as a great quality and durable tote bag you need one so that you can fit all of your necessities for throughout the day such as for work, the gym, laptop, journal etc. and also your change of shoes for if you need to wear a certain pair from one destination to the next and then change into the shoes that go with your outfit on the way there. You can invest in a great luxury bag so that you can have it for years to come or go to a fast-fashion retailer and get one for the season.

6. Great Coat

   As I’ve been telling you for years your coat is apart of your outfit and it is what people see in the fall and winter and it can make or break your look. It’s possible to be both warm and cute, I know I personally hate an ugly coat and love for even my outerwear for the colder months to look stylish and fashionable. You want coats that are in one neutral color at least but also a fashionable coat that still serves its purpose for the season, something with some color. This is also another item that you can invest in to last several seasons instead of just lasting for one to two seasons for one year.

7. Leather

   Great leather is something that you can get low-end and high-end, but it is definitely something that is on trend for this season from full outfits, separates, to shoes, and coats. People are loving leather and it is a great texture to have in your closet when it is great quality. It may be pricier than you may be looking for but there are still low-end and high-end options. In the colder weather not only is it great to still implement color into your everyday looks but also texture like leather and snakeskin which helps to also shield from the cool winds but its still very stylish. A great fast fashion option for great leather pieces that are a good quality (Some better than others) include Zara, MissGuided, ASOS, and Topshop. But by investing in high-end leather goods from places like Louis Vuitton, Balmain, Net-a-Porter, and many more. Leather is a very popular trend right now and is something that you can wear from head to toe if you style it correctly.

8. A great bold Lip Color

   Like I keep reiterating color is still important in the Fall you just want to make sure that they are deep and beautiful tones and not on the neon side that was fit for the summer . Deep and bold hues look luxurious and elegant. Colors like a dark burgundy, an ombre red, a pop of red like Ruby Woo or Stunna by Fenty Beauty, and a great nude/brown. Fenty beauty, MAC Cosmetics and NYX Cosmetics are my favorite. You can have on a dark colored neutral toned look and spice it up with a deep colored burgundy or brown or have on a jewel tones look and add a red lip for more chicness.

9. A great hairstyle

   In the Fall to still feel stylish and continue to be fashionable you can change up your hair and maybe instead of going dark you can do highlights and look into colors like brown or blonde or even some reds just to brighten up your face and give you a fresher look. Going with brighter colors in your clothing choices and beauty products allow for you to not get into gloomy and being down while the weather gets colder. Also not only can you implement some bright color but you can also do a cut if you’re looking for a new look. A new look also may be the change you need to make you feel refreshed inside.

10. Pant suit

    A great pant suit has always been one of my favs but it is definitely on the fashion forecast for the Fall and the Winter. It is another piece or look that is usually viewed as being masculine but looks great on women too. A great pant suit can be tailored to fit great in the right areas and still give you the sophisticated and chic masculine yet feminine look that you desire. I suggest having a great suit in the neutral colors but also a great suit in colors like pink, red or green look amazing too. You can purchase your suit as a full set or each piece separately, it all depends on your preference and what you find when shopping. You can thrift or purchase a suit low-end or high-end. (Thrifting the jacket and then getting it tailored to fit your body is cost effective and still looks great. Also a little tip, shoulder pads look great especially if you decide to go with the oversized blazer look.

11. Blouse

    As I previously mentioned (in #3 Great Bottoms) when it gets cold outside your bottom options usually start to become limited and even though you may have different pairs you may find yourself wearing the same style of pants due to comfortability and they are suitable for the weather but one thing that you can do to make sure that you don’t look like you’re wearing the same thing everyday is to have amazing blouses, from blouses with great necklines, texture (leather, snakeskin, lace), amazing sleeves (such as balloon sleeves), ruffles, bows, different colors etc. A great blouse can do great things for limited wardrobe options when its cold out and you can find great options any and everywhere.

12. Boots and Flats

    So a main dilemma that I usually encounter in the Fall and Winter when it comes to choosing outfits are shoe options. When its raining and snowing outside I always end up resorting to the same boots or shoes which changes my outfits to be certain things or being tainted by bad shoe choices. But if you’re like me you need to invest in more cute flats and boots , because all I have is a bunch of heels and those aren’t always functional shoes when it comes to doing a lot of running throughout the day (which is when your good quality tote bag comes into play to hold your change of shoes). When looking through your closet to examine what you need for the new season if you have a lot of clothes that you can wear then focus on getting shoes to go with them.

My skin is going CRAZY!

So with traveling, stress and lack of sleep my skin has been going CRAZY! I usually get minimal to no breakouts and have pretty good skin, I do a face mask probably once or twice a month and I use my cleanser, rose water spray and retinol oil (because these are products that work for me) maybe once a week. My skin isn’t something I usually pay too much attention to as far as buying products because my skin is usually really good but as of lately it has been going crazy and everyday it seems to be something new. It may look clear and glowing on the outside and to others but to me I see the breakouts and how frequently I’m getting them and that’s not normal for me and what I’m used to my skin doing .

So as I stated previously these are the products I use when I do use something and I use them because I like them and they get the job done and I’m not a person who wants to be doing a 1,000 product regimen. But lately since my crazy skin problems I’ve had to use them more often and I’ve decided that I need to look for some really great products that do the same as these and create a regimen. When I’m used to something being a certain way ALL the time I don’t like when things randomly start changing which is exactly how I’m feeling towards my skin. I have been in skincare research mode and looking at different people that I like on Instagram who are interested heavily in skincare and are knowledgable about great products and I am taking note of what products I want to try, what services I want to go get done by an esthetician and what things I need to change so that my skin can go back to normal.

Your body will find its way to tell you that you’re doing too much and It may be a different way each time, but you better listen. This time my body chose to tell me to slow down through my face and I definitely didn’t like it so now I get the message loud and clear. Listen to your body and pay attention instantly when something seems to be out of wack. I drink lots of water daily and my skin is still going crazy so that shows that there are other issues.

So within the next few weeks I will start to purchase products that I really like and feel that they will work great on my skin based off of research, I will create a regimen that I can use weekly and get a great cleanser that I can use daily. As well as find an esthetician where I can start getting a monthly or bi-monthly facial. I am not a huge like skincare regimen junky but I love great skin so I will definitely be getting strict with a regimen!

Hair Clips, Hair Clips and more Hair Clips!

I usually don’t bother myself with paying close attention to the current trends or what everyone is wearing because it gets old very quick and I follow the beat of my own drum but this particular trend was super cute when I first saw it and I was definitely intrigued. I will admit the first time I saw it I thought it was super cute and could be used for photoshoots etc. but didn’t think I would ever want to try it, but on a whim I decided to give it a go.

There are so many different places that you can grab all types of clips from, the most popular are the pearled clips and the silver clips with the different words made on them. This trend gives you a fun and playful spin to class, elegance and editorial. When worn with the correct outfit it can give you many different looks, whether they are dressed up or down.

For this particular look I wasn’t doing anything this day and decided to just put the clips on with a low bun and a chill outfit and it turned out super cute (don’t mind the wrinkled pants, the wrinkles wouldn’t come out). Like I said before you can definitely dress the trend up or down, and do different style of the clips, you can look on the internet for different ideas on how to wear them if you want to participate in this trend, but I do feel like they go with certain hairstyle not all.

Now y’all know I’m all about a good deal and I don’t condone over paying for things especially something like hair clips that you can literally probably get at the beauty supply store. There are stores and companies trying to charge crazy prices because they’re on trend but you can head to amazon, or your local fast fashion store or boutique and they definitely should have what you’’re looking for.

Also style and fashion is playful, your style should be tailored to you and you shouldn’t take yourself to seriously. You may not like trends and trendy pieces that everyone is wearing, but its okay to like a trend and decide to play with it whether you every wear it outside or not. Have fun and see what’s cute, and if you like it then nothing else matters especially not anybody’s opinion.

NYFW Recap: Finally!

I know that I’ve been gone for a while and I should’ve gotten this up weeks ago, but life. I went to New York Fashion Week for the third time September 4th-9th and I had an amazing experience like I always do. I attended a lot of events, parties and shows but three of them were my absolute favorite. As a person trying to grow, move through and create a career within the fashion industry it’s always amazing to be able to attend things like New York Fashion Week. One of my absolute favorite moments was being able to have the opportunity to attend the Pyer Moss show that changed my life (To find out how I got so lucky keep reading). These top three really motivated me to keep working hard and advocating for change and never give up on my dreams because its all possible.

My most favorite thing of my whole trip was being able to attend the Pyer Moss show, which was on Sunday the 8th. I didn’t know I was attending this show until a day or two before I was going to be going to New York. Kerby Jean-Raymond announced on his social media about a week prior that he was going to be giving away a few tickets to the show and all you had to do was enter your name on his website so I decided to shoot my shot and did it, I had no high hopes or anything but I just said “why not” and did it. after a week I honestly forgot I entered and he hadn’t announced the winner yet and as I was checking my email Tuesday night for an RSVP to another show I saw the email from Pyer Moss saying congratulations I was invited and almost has a heart attack. I couldn’t believe that I had won and I was invited to my first major show, it was one of my favorite designers and he’s black and represents to culture so amazing. 

Fast forward to the show, I had been waiting the whole few days I had been there for Sunday to go to the show. It was in Flatbush at the Kings Theater which is also very iconic to black people in Brooklyn, The show itself was so breathtaking that I can’t even begin to explain it. First of all it was BLACK AS HELL, the show took us  to church, it took us to a hip hop concert that included a live choir singing Missy Elliot, LIl Kim, BIggie, Megan thee Stallion, Cardi B and so many more as well as sung old school music that your mom would wake you up on Saturday mornings singing to. The ALL BLACK choir sung throughout the entire show, as well as the ALL BLACK band that opened the show and the ALL BLACK modeling cast that did amazing and to top all of this off the AMAZING designs. The show was bringing everyone to tears and moved me so much. It showed us how black people are so important in the fashion industry and we are the blueprint. I can’t even begin to go into further detail because how the show made me feel, what it embodied and what it meant is just something that can’t be explained you had to feel it for yourself and be there. Kerby Jean-Raymond is what fashion week needed and I’m so happy and blessed to have had the opportunity to attend (to see footage of the show you can watch my vlog on my youtube channel or my IGTV video on Instagram).

Another one of my favorite events that I attended was the For the Culture day party by Nareasha Willis who is the creator of AVNU and the Black Vogue Movement. Nareasha is a young black designer from New Jersey that has created an amazing brand that stands up for the culture and is pushing to put the spotlight back on the people that fashion houses steal everything from which are black people and black communities, while they take the things that we were dimensioned for doing they never credit us or want to give us seats at their tables. If you have seen “Ghetto Until Proven Fashionable” or “Black Vogue Movement” on anything or through social media those are her pieces and she is the original creator of those phrases. She pushes to keep putting the eyes back on black people who are talented but get overshadowed by the thievery of the larger companies in the fashion industry, she puts on for the young girls from the hood that have just as much style as the girls in vogue, she is using the word “ghetto” that they have tried to use against us and use to diminish our character as a way to take our power back. 

She decided to have this party because she has been in an ongoing lawsuit with Vogue, which she shares her experience with this to the community and through her social media to bring awareness. She is in this lawsuit because they are suing her for her “Black Vogue Movement” slogan and merchandise (absurd right?!!!) but she is putting in a good fight and not giving up and as she continues to reiterate this is bigger than her, this is for all of us to show that we won’t just lay down and take it anymore. The party was used to help raise funds for this lawsuit so that she can keep fighting strong. I loved this event because it was filled with stylish black excellence, it was amazing vibes and energy, it was lots of connecting and network, it was full of black people that were trying to have a good time and not act stuffy like the people who are usually at the fashion week shows. It was amazing to just be there, aside from the great DJ, the violinist, the photographers, the set  up, the cartoonist, the food and the drinks it was just amazing to be surrounded by beautiful black people and they were also stylish as hell too. I saw so many amazing and successful black people that are in the fashion industry there as well (That I love seeing them thrive via Instagram) It was just amazing to witness.

Another of my favorites was the Telfar Global by Telfar Clemens film screening of '“The World Isn’t Everything”. I love when designers take a different route on how to showcase their designs other than just having models walk down the runway. I feel like 80% of the fashion industry has lost its creativity especially with their shows compared to the designers like Alexander McQueen, Thierry Mugler, Versace, Chanel etc. spanning from the 90s to the early 2000s that used to really put on a SHOW. At the event there was open bar with specially curated drinks, there was a White Castle food truck giving away free burgers and chicken rings during the whole event. and much more. The film gave a look into what the designer would be previewing at his show in Paris, the film starred the amazing actor Ashton Sanders from Moonlight telling a story and evoking questions including “Are you a citizen of the united communities?” speaking about living in America, immigration, rights and the lack there of etc. and models wearing Telfar serving as the visuals with clips of them walking through airport security and standing on a platform in the middle of the water in Manhattan. 

Telfar Clemens started his brand in 2005 but has been creating non-gender conforming pieces since 2002, he  won the CFDA Fashion Fund Award in 2015 and was a 2019 CFDA Award Nominee for Accessory Designer of the year for his bags that have his initials TC on them. During the few days that I was there he also had an event in collaboration with Opening Ceremony at one of their stores showcasing his new bags that was filled with younger people that are trying to break into fashion and interested in that scene (which is important)  and the film screening was more about the clothing that he was going to be showcasing in Paris. 

As previously stated I enjoyed my time at NYFW as I always do but black designers definitely showed up and showed out and saved fashion week. I am so glad to see black designers flourishing and see so many of us pushing to take back telling our own stories and telling the truth to showcase all of the lies and stealing that has gone on for so long and is still happening. The Perfect Chill Summer look.

This look is like the perfect chill and comfy summer look for my stylish girls. If you’re anything like me your comfortable and chill wardrobe is different from others and they may still consider it being more dressy than chill but this look for me was the perfect comfort for a summer day. This tee shirt with these amazing puffy sleeves is the perfect top to put a twist on your black t-shirt, then I paired it with these long and comfortable denim shorts that were pants when I bought them (lol) after picking my shirt and shorts I went into adding accessories and spicing up my canvas.

For accessories I added these sunglasses that i got recently that I’m absolutely in love with and they have quickly become my favorite. then I added this snakeskin black bag from Forever 21 which is super compact and convenient for this summer and the strap comes off which is great for pairing it with a dressier look. After the sunglasses and the bag came the shoes and I added these super cute slip in shoes from Zara that definitely add some more fashions due to the gold fringes. This outfit was very last minute for me for just a comfy and chill day but I absolutely loved it and my chill go to for the summer is shorts, a cute shirt or tee shirt, bomb shades, a cute bag and nice shoes and you have a LOOK honey.

From Simple to Stylish

As I always talk about there are many ways to take a simple canvas aka an outfit and turn it into a bomb outfit, you just have to know your style. You can go from simple to bomb by adding a few key pieces such as shoes, a bag, sunglasses, a lip or just any accessory and just know the look that you’re going for.

For this look specifically I knew I wanted a look with jeans and a white button down but far from as plain as that sounds, I wanted it to be effortlessly chic and very stylish. So once I put my base on I just kind of built from there. I added a black lace bra with a “V” detailing underneath, then I went on to add my signature red lip (Ruby Woo by MAC) and these amazing black sunglasses which I can not find. and a pair of one of my favorite heels. Just with a few accessories I was able to take this outfit from very blah and plain to super cute and something that could be worn out to lunch or out with the girls to somewhere during the day.

Like I always talk about it’s not about how many different things you have in your closet, but it’s about if the pieces that you do have a versatile and if they can serve as a canvas for you to create the look that you want or the look that you’ve seen and want to recreate. I was able to take my outfit up a few notches with pieces that I already own. I want you guys to start trying to start with what you have and build onto it instead of breaking the bank and buying clothes that you don’t need!

How to Pick the right Denim

For a long time I was not a denim girl, I could count on one hand how many pairs of jeans I owned. I was the girl that didn’t wear jeans and if I did it was for something super chill and on rare occasions, but as I began to get older and while I was in college I began to find out why having jeans was necessary for my wardrobe and more specifically why I needed GOOD jeans. Denim is that one piece that is very versatile and universal, it doesn’t matter what shape size or variation you can pretty much always find something good in denim.

As my love and need for good jeans grew I began to realize that not only were good jeans important but cost and where you purchase them is important as well. For me I don’t want to have to buy jeans too often. I want pair of jeans that no matter how many times you wash them they still fit the same. I love ripped jeans, high-waist jeans, bell bottom jeans, boyfriend jeans and a good jean that comes all the way to the ankle, I feel like you need all of those because they all create a different look. Thus far my favorite place to get jeans is Topshop, yes they are like $80but they are very much worth it! They fit your body amazing, they hug your curves perfectly, they high waist jeans are actually high waist and no matter how many times you wash them they don’t look washed out!

Surprisingly enough another pair of my favorite jeans that I grew to love are my high waist skinny leg jeans, I absolutely love the fit, I am not a Fashion Nova shopper by any means but I give credit when it’s due and the jeans were about $28. To find the perfect pair of jeans you don’t have to spend a lot of money but keep in mind sometimes the price does make a difference and you do want a pair that’ll last!

Summer Wardrobe Essentials

1. Great Sunglasses

   I am a person that loves sunglasses year around, I feel like sunglasses can make an outfit so much better day or night. Sunglasses are that accessory that you much have and that you need to always buy in good quality or in diverse looks and sizes. In the summer time is when your sunglasses game needs to be STRONG, the sun will be beaming due to the new hot weather and you need to make sure that your eyes are protected in the most fashionable way about it.

2. Cute sandals

   I personally love a good heel, but there comes a time when cute flats just have to suffice. In the summer there are so many activities that you may possibly be doing ti enjoy the good and warm weather and you need shoes and an outfit that allow you to do that comfortably and sandals are one thing that let you do that. You need sandals in the basic colors as well as in the fashion colors and cute and different designs. Weather you wear these sandals throughout the whole day or change into them after you take your heels off they still have to be cute enough to go with your look and match!

3. Flowy Materials

   As I keep saying and as we all know the summer gets very hot and I feel like this one will be extremely hot due to the long and brutal winter we had this year and the lack of the Spring season. In the summer you don’t want to wear heavy and thick materials because you will burn up no matter how cute you look. There’s nothing worst than being hot and uncomfortable so stick to lighter more flowy materials and light colors so that they don’t attract heat and cause your body temperature to rise. so anything that has movement to it and does not stick to your skin due to it being too tight whether it’s a dress, pants, shorts, a shirt etc. then it is perfect for the summer season.

4. White Clothes

   So they say you can’t wear white after labor day, but i don’t know who made up that stupid rule because I love an all white look and I wear white all year around. But in the summertime an all white look is necessary. All white just makes you look so refreshed and crisp and in the words of Dej Loaf “Rock that all white when I’m feeling Godly.” As the summertime approaches any white piece that you come across while shopping you need to just grab it because in the summer you never know when you’ll need it and all white is always a good choice. Also white pieces go with anything because they are a neutral tone and if you know anything about me by now it’s that I love a versatile wardrobe.

5. Shorts

   So as a reference to having flowly clothes most times during the summer you need clothes that show your legs because it’s too hot for pants unless they are flowy or light colored. You want to start grabbing shorts weather they are denim, have designs or a solid color. You can dress shorts up and down it just all depends on what you pair with it from your accessories to your top and shoes. There’s many times that the day we realize that we need something is the day you’re trying to wear it and shorts are that thing for me! A quick tip for your denim shorts is thrifting denim pants and cutting them into the shorts that you want them to be!

6. Small Bags

   As I stated previously during the summer you are usually during more activities than usual to enjoy the weather, and when you are out and about you don’t want to add big and bulky things that you have to carry because that generates heat as well so cute and small crossbody bags or fanny packs are more than necessary for the Summer. You of course want something that can hold all of your things but nothing too big that it weighs you down. You can get the cutest bags from anywhere and at any price point so there’s no excuses!

7. A weather appropriate third piece

   So even though the summer is hot there are those cool summer nights and you don’t want to be out with something that has a tank sleeve and now you’re cold so you always want to take a cute third piece that you can just throw on when it gets a little chilly out. I’m not talking about a coat but just a light jacket, and preferably something that still goes with your outfit! But you don’t want to be caught out here unprepared.

How to be Inspired and Motivated as an Entrepreneur

As an entrepreneur many times I encounter being unmotivated or uninspired especially when it comes to doing so many things at one time. When you are the person that handles all aspects of your business or many different businesses and you serve as the creator, marker, creative director, content creator, director, producer, promoter etc. it can get hard to find inspiration to create new things because you have to focus on every single aspect and can also get draining and tire you out.

Although there’s been such big talk on entrepreneurship and the perks of it, a lot of people don’t speak on the negative things, or a lot of the things that entrepreneurs may experience mentally, physically or emotionally and that needs to be apart of the conversation just as much as “what’s coming next?” Entrepreneurs including myself deal with burnout, not paying correct attention to our bodies health, our mental space and how we’re really feeling while we’re constantly worried about work!work! work. As effective and important as it is to keep the hustle and work ethic strong and keep pushing forward it’s just as important to take care of yourself because without you there will be no businesses and without you being here to see the fruits of your labor it wasn’t worth it.

Aside from mental and physical health, being uninspired and unmotivated also presents itself in entrepreneurship. There’s been many times that I have had ideas for projects and just didn’t have the motivation or inspiration or even the energy to bring it to life and finally start putting the plans in motion to make it happen. There’s been times that I wanted to create something, but didn’t know exactly what and wasn’t creatively inspired to figure it out. For me to get out of my creative rut I have to go and do things that I truly enjoy and sometimes that needs to be things in different mediums than something like fashion which can include art museums, open mic nights, new music, documentaries etc. because those are all different types of creative things I like and they aren’t in fashion so it doesn’t over saturate my mind. Also even though on my social media such as Instagram I only follow people who inspire and motivate me, are in business or in fashion but still too much of it can be mentally draining and to get stuff done be mentally clear I have to put to close the app and put the phone down.

If you are a business owner or entrepreneur or even thinking about venturing into either then I want you to know that it is okay to take a break or do things that you like when you are feeling uninspired or unmotivated. Also I want you to know that this lifestyle isn’t all glitz and glamour and takes tough skin, it takes many hours out of your days as well as can take a toll on you and your body because burnout is real. Always remember that your well being is just as important as the hustle.

A Guide to your Spring Essentials

1. Colors/Pastels

   In the Spring things change, the weather gets warmer, the scenery gets brighter and everything looks more alive and our wardrobe needs to as well. Spring is that time that you bring out your bright red, blue, yellow and green pieces without any excuses. Spring is the time that you play with all types of color (even pastel) and just have some fun. There are things more groundbreaking than florals and that is COLOR. You can do this with separate pieces or even matching sets. Spring is the time to have fun because you’re implementing all of the outfit ideas that you’ve been storing since the winter but it was too cold to wear them.

2. Great Jackets

   Even though the weather gets warmer you still need a jacket in many places, despite what some people may think or dress like. As I’ve told you before, your coat or jacket is just as important if not more important than your actual outfit because it’s what people see first and you don’t want to ruin a great outfit with an ugly jacket. You can go bold with bright colors for a jacket, you can do a plastic jacket that is similar to a raincoat which is a very popular trend currently, also leather jackets are perfect for the Spring. because they aren’t super thick and are a bit lightweight. But your jacket is very important always remember that, have fun with it and keep it stylish.

3. Necklines

   There are many different necklines that can be worn in the Spring since the weather is now getting warmer. You can venture into square necklines, v-necklines. turtlenecks, heart necklines, asymmetrical necklines etc. Playing with different necklines allows you to create a chicer aesthetic, it allows you to be able to heighten your outfit choices with just one piece that has some extra detail. Different necklines are very flattering to your shoulders and your collar bone so when you add something with a square neckline on V-neck it allows you to add some simple jewelry as well to create a sultry and alluring look.

4. Materials and Textures (Sheer, Transparent, Rubber)

   Texture and material is an amazing way for you to be versatile in your wardrobe, you can wear transparent pieces, faux rubber pieces like outerwear, ruffles on blouses, leather pieces etc. Also with the Spring weather you can do different textures and materials in bright colors, adding texture to your looks adds depth and layers an outfit. These pieces can also be transferred to different seasons as well because they aren’t always super flowy, when you have different points of an outfit it makes it even better, but you have to make sure that they all come together to make sense.

5. Sunglasses

   Different and very unique sunglasses have been a big trend for the past few seasons. Whether there are the popular tiny lenses or the bigger shades that make a big fashion statement. I am a person that loves sunglasses and will wear them year around, but in the spring you can play with colored lenses and even just stylish shades overall and they are fitting for the season. Sunglasses are that accessory that can turn an outfit to being cute to best dressed. Most times nice sunglasses and a cute bag are the only accessories that I need.

6. Neon

   Neon is a huge trend entering the spring, whether its the neon pink, green, yellow or deep blue. Neon has been lighting up the fashion world, especially the fast fashion world, there’s is a few pieces in everything neon. You can choose to do a full neon look and balance it with darker shoes, a darker bag, or a darker jacket. Or if you don’t want to go full on neon you can chose one or two neon pieces and build your look from there. But this Spring you need to add at least two items that are neon whether its clothing, shoes, a bag, a jacket or sunglasses.

7. Animal Print

   Animal print has been trending since the fall and winter and it is definitely transitioning over to the Spring. Snakeskin is my favorite animal print that I am more than gladly bringing into thus new season. You can do animal print that’s in a quality material and get some amazing pieces, whether its a animal print shirt and pants that can be work together or separate. You can do an animal print bag and definitely light colored animal print shoes are perfect for this warmer weather. Animal print doesn’t seem to be going anywhere so if you don’t have any yet you should grab some, you can get animal prints of good quality for affordable prices.

Three Ways to Wear Black Without looking Basic

So many of us love to wear black and love to wear all black, but a lot of the time it’s resorted to black pants and a black top, and I’m here to tell you that you can still wear black without looking plain or basic and we can also wear all black but still add a little bit of color. So I’m going to tell you to how to wear all black without being basic and adding a little bit of color with the black.

With this look I added some white into the black, I stuck with the black top but using a turtleneck to make the look more chic, also adding some white to spice it up. I chose stripped black and white pants to add some contrast because remember we aren’t being basic with our black right now. I stuck with the all black for the shoes and purse to tie everything all together and still keep it simple with accessories. The biggest thing I did to spice up my black was this black and white coat! This coat was the perfect piece to add to make this outfit a perfect way to incorporate different colors into your black look. This red lip was the perfect lipstick because a red lip is perfect with any outfit especially with black. This look is perfect for work or after work dinner because it is very professional, includes black but is definitely NOT basic.

With this look we stayed all black but we added a bomb third piece to spice it up and to make the look far from basic. Y’all know I talk about third pieces all the time and I hope y’all listening because I’m telling the truth and they can really make or break an outfit. I chose a plain black tank dress as my canvas, added a black a sheer black kimono and short black boots with snakeskin detail. With black it’s always great to add a pop of color or a popping piece even if it’s an accessory, so I chose to add this brown and black snakeskin bag with a bamboo handle. Although this look was all black I added dimension by adding a cute colorful bag, adding a jacket with detail and structure and adding shoes that were black but detailed with a cute silhouette. This look is perfect for a night out with your girls or you can change the canvas to black pants and a black top but keep the third piece and cute accessories and wear this look to work. Overall this isn’t your basic all black outfit and you didn’t even have to do much.

With this look it was all about the layering but we still kept it all black . This look is perfect for work, happy hour, a weekend with the girls, and brunch which is why it’s perfect. We grabbed a black silk blouse That has a keyhole button and is fitted at the wrists we layered that under sleeveless overalls (Because we love pieces that are multi-seasonal) and we added a corduroy jacket over our shoulder with tied booties that matched, This look again was simply just adding a third piece and cute accessories. Taking Black from boring to basic isn’t that difficult when you really think about it
